Caiyuan Jade
Caiyuan Jade originates from the Laoling Mountain range of the Changbai Mountain system, the highest mountain range at the eastern edge of the Eurasian continent. It is named after Caiyuan Town in Ji’an City, Tonghua, Jilin Province, where the mineral deposit is located.
Geologically, it is a rare serpentinized peridotite jade, with olivine forming its structural framework and serpentine composing its matrix. The material exhibits a fine-grained texture, moderate hardness, and a broad chromatic range. It is primarily classified into yellow, green, and black series, with naturally occurring mixed-color varieties.
The tri-color combination of yellow, green, and black—referred to as the “Caiyuan Tricolor”—is especially valued for its visual depth and compositional harmony, expressing the dynamism and richness of the natural world.
Within traditional Chinese philosophy, yellow, green, and black correspond to the Five Elements and Five Colors system. This cultural alignment imbues Caiyuan Jade with symbolic meaning that extends beyond its physical attributes, reinforcing its significance as both a material and spiritual medium.
